Arcade Color Block Top

Arcade Color Block Top

If you've been wanting to try color blocking in crochet, or you've been eyeing the arcade stitch for a while, the Arcade Color Block Top is your sign to just go for it.

Four colors. One stunning top.

The color combination is what makes this top so eye-catching: orange, denim blue, hot pink, and a pop of dark magenta on the sleeves. Each section has its own color, so the whole project feels fresh from start to finish. But here's the thing. You don't have to use four colors. Make it in two, make it in one, make it in whatever combination makes you happy. The construction works beautifully either way.

How it's built

You'll start with the bust, working from the back up toward the shoulders, then continuing straight into the front bust and shaping the neckline as you go. The bust is worked in double crochet, worked into the spaces between stitches, which creates a beautifully clean, even fabric.

Then comes the arcade stitch. This is where the top really opens up, literally. The arcade stitch creates those beautiful scalloped fans of double crochets separated by chain spaces, giving the body that airy, flowy look that drapes so beautifully. It looks complicated but once you get into the rhythm it's surprisingly intuitive.

At the bottom you'll work a double crochet hem to finish the top off cleanly, add the sleeves, and seam the sides.

Made to measure

You work to your own bust measurement, your own body length, your own sleeve width. The pattern guides you through every adjustment so nothing is left to guessing.

Wear it everywhere

This top works year round. In summer, wear it over a camisole or with high-waisted shorts. In cooler months, layer it over a long sleeve top or turtleneck. The arcade stitch keeps it lightweight enough to layer without bulk, and the oversized fit makes it comfortable for all day wear.
