Ember Fringe Poncho

Ember Fringe Poncho

If the idea of crocheting a garment feels intimidating, I want you to meet the Ember Fringe Poncho, because this one might just change your mind.

There are no seams to figure out, no shaping, no complicated construction. Just one rectangle, worked in a simple lace stitch, folded in half and joined at one shoulder. That's it. That's the whole thing.

Why a rectangle works so well

Rectangles are the most forgiving shape in crochet. You work row after row until it's as long as you want, then stop. No counting, no increases, no decreases. And because this poncho is made to measure, you decide the length yourself as you go. Just hold it up against your body and keep going until it feels right.

Once the rectangle is finished, you fold it lengthwise, line up the edges, and use a blanket stitch to seam one shoulder. The opening left at the neckline is entirely up to you. Try it on as you go and stop when it sits exactly where you want it.

The fringe

The fringe along the bottom edge is optional, but it's what gives this poncho its character. It's quick to add and makes the whole piece feel intentional and finished. I used Sultan Shadow in black amber, a 100% cotton super fine yarn that drapes beautifully and keeps the piece lightweight for warmer days.

Who is this for?

This is a beginner-friendly pattern. If you can chain, single crochet, and double crochet, you have everything you need. It's also a great next step if you've been wanting to try garment crochet but weren't sure where to start.

The full written pattern and video tutorial are available in my shop. I'll walk you through every single step.
