Scrap Happy Bag

Scrap Happy Bag

The Scrap Happy Bag and My Never-Ending Summer Scrap Yarn Saga

Every summer I find myself staring at the same growing pile of leftover cotton yarn.

You know the one. Small balls from tops, dresses, bags, and random projects that used most of the skein but not quite all of it. Too much to throw away, not enough to make another garment.

The Scrap Happy Bag came from my ongoing attempt to actually use those leftovers instead of simply adding them to the collection.

I wanted something practical, simple, and large enough to carry all the things that somehow end up coming with me during summer. The result is a colorful oversized bag that lets every scrap have its moment.

What makes this one different

This isn't a project where you need to carefully plan your colors.

The changing stripes are the whole point.

Every leftover ball of yarn gets to join the party, whether it's a full skein's worth or just a few meters left from another project. The more random the colors, the more personality the finished bag has.

It's also made entirely with single crochet stitches, which means the focus stays on the colors and shape rather than complicated stitch patterns.

How it's built

The bag is worked in one piece from the bottom up.

You begin with a circular base and continue working the body in rounds until it reaches your desired height. The handles are then worked directly onto the bag and joined to create the finished shape.

Like most Loops Only patterns, it's made-to-measure. There are no sizes to choose from and no size chart to follow. You simply make the bag as large or as small as you'd like.

I used cotton yarn scraps held double throughout my sample, but any yarn can be used. Just choose a hook size that creates a sturdy fabric with enough structure for a bag.
