Scrappy Stripe Dress

Scrappy Stripe Dress

Just me, my hook, and a simple rule

I'd already made a few projects trying to chip away at the pile. But this one? This dress finally made a real difference. After finishing it, I can actually breathe again.
My crochet corner was bursting. Seriously bursting. Little balls of leftover yarn everywhere, half-used skeins stacked in every corner, and that guilty feeling every time I opened my stash knowing I should do something with all of it.

So I gathered every leftover ball I had and started crocheting. No plan. No color chart. Just me, my hook, and a simple rule: change colors every round and see what happens.

The only thing I knew for sure? The cowl neck, pocket, and sleeve cuffs would be red. Well, I hoped they'd be red — I wasn't even sure I had enough red yarn to pull it off. 😅
But round by round, stripe by stripe, something magical started happening. The colors played together in ways I never would have planned. Blues next to reds, creams blending into teals, every round a little surprise.

The kind of piece you just live in

The Scrappy Stripe Dress is oversized, relaxed, and worked seamlessly from the top down with a deep cowl neck. It falls at mid-thigh (though you can adjust the length to whatever you want), and those wide sleeves are perfect for layering.

And can we talk about that pocket? A bold red square right on the front — functional and a statement.

Because the dress is so colorful, it's ridiculously easy to style. Leg warmers? They match. Leggings? They work. Trousers? Absolutely. When I get cold, I just throw on my leg warmers and I'm set.

It's the kind of piece I can't get enough of. Cozy, easy, and made from yarn that was just sitting there waiting for a second life.

Whether you're drowning in leftover yarn like I was, or you just love the idea of a no-plan, colorful make, this dress is for you.
