Sway Dress

Sway Dress

You know what happens when you're making the Sway Sweater and you just... don't stop?

You get the Sway Dress.

That's exactly how this design came to be. I hit the waist length and thought "but what if I kept going?" So I did. Same construction, extended length

The Sway Dress uses the same raglan yoke construction as the sweater—worked from the top down, then divided for body and sleeves. The difference is you keep working the body rounds.

Those continuous side increases at the underarm create progressively longer side seams compared to the center. The sides drape lower while the center sits higher. It's intentional, that's what creates the A-line flow and natural movement.

Extended stitch texture

Extended stitch creates textured fabric with structure that still drapes beautifully. It works up faster than regular single crochet because each stitch adds more height. Once you get the rhythm down, it's meditative. You stop thinking and just work.

Adjustable everything

You decide when to stop. Mini, midi, maxi, it's your call. The pattern gives guidance on round counts, but try it on as you go and adjust based on your height and preference. Just remember extra length needs extra yarn.

Sport weight versatility

I used sport weight yarn for the sample, which makes it perfect for layering. Wear it over leggings and a long sleeve in fall, alone with sandals in spring, or under a denim jacket for cool evenings.

It's comfortable enough for everyday but polished enough to feel put-together.

What you'll learn

The tutorial walks you through top-down raglan construction, dividing for body and sleeves, creating A-line shaping with side increases, and adjusting length. These skills transfer to other garment patterns—once you understand the construction, you can modify designs with confidence. The result is a dress that feels like your favorite sweatshirt but looks intentional. Something you reach for constantly because it's that easy to wear.
