The Citrus Dress is a playful crochet piece that’s perfect for summer. With juicy fruit slices dancing across the skirt, it’s a joyful pattern that invites color play—think lemons in yellow, oranges in bright orange, or even a bold black-and-white version for a graphic twist. Designed for intermediate crocheters, this dress uses intarsia crochet to create the bold, oversized fruit motif. One thing I love about this design is how much it stretches—keep in mind, it’ll naturally grow 10 cm (4 inches) after wear or blocking! That’s why the length is a bit shorter in the pattern.

I’m so excited to see how you make this your own 🍊—whether you go classic citrus or shake things up with your own favorite fruit-inspired shades.

Crochet garments tend to stretch a lot when worn. The Citrus Dress is designed shorter because it naturally stretches at least 10 cm / 4 inches after blocking, hanging, or just a few hours of wear. Keep this in mind when choosing your size!

Stitch Key (US terminology)

  • ch/s = chain/s
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • RS = right side
  • slst = slip stitch
  • st/s = stitch/es
  • WS = wrong side

Notes

  • This pattern includes a full video tutorial designed to clarify any techniques or steps that are better demonstrated visually than explained in writing.
  • You’ll begin by making two bust panels, followed by two body panels that you’ll attach to the bust. Next, sew the shoulders together. Then seam the sides of the dress. Add one round of hdc around the neckline and armholes.
  • This pattern uses intarsia crochet. Intarsia crochet involves using separate yarn bobbins or small balls for each color block, ensuring that yarn is not carried across the back of the work. Follow the color chart carefully and manage yarn changes neatly to maintain a clean finish.
  • Row 1 on Body Panel is foundation half double crochet.
  • You will be working with hdc: when instructions say “(B) x 7” it means 1 hdc in the next 7 sts with yarn B.
  • Each size has a link to the “Progress Tracker” for easy to follow instructions.
