Creating crochet patterns has been a passion of mine, and I’m thrilled to share my latest design with you: the Flower Oversized Top. This pattern, perfect for intermediate crocheters, combines creativity with a bit of a challenge. Here’s a bit about the journey of designing it and all the details you need to get started.
The Story Behind the Design
I’ve always been fascinated by the beauty of crochet patterns, especially those that incorporate nature-inspired designs. The Flower Oversized Top is my first tapestry crochet pattern, and it was a joy to design. The idea of a flower blossoming up from the waist seemed like a beautiful and bold statement piece. I wanted something that felt both artistic and wearable, and this top turned out to be just that.
The design process was quite an adventure. Crafting the chart for the flower on the front panel took a lot of meticulous work, but seeing the final product made it all worth it. I’m really proud of how it turned out, and I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Pattern Details
The Flower Oversized Top is crafted using the tapestry crochet technique. You’ll start by making the front and back panels, sewing the shoulders together, then crafting the sleeves. After sewing the sides of the body together, you’ll finish with a round of half double crochet stitches around the neckline. Though the top is cropped, the length can be easily adjusted with the instructions provided in the pattern.
The key stitches used include:
- ch: chain
- fhdc: foundation half double crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- slst: slip stitch
- st: stitch
- sts: stitches
The chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
Gauge
The gauge for the body with a 3.5 mm hook is 18 hdc x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm, and for the sleeves with a 2.5 mm hook, it’s 21 hdc x 5 rows = 10 x 3 cm.
