Materials

  • YARN: DROPS Safran, yarn group A, color 67 (pumpkin) and color 18 (off white)
  • Hook:  4 mm/G-6
  • yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape, stitch marker 

Size

It will fit average adult size heads 53,5-58,5 cm (21-23 inches)

Stitch Key (US terminology)

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet 
  • sc blo = single crochet in back loop only 
  • sc flo = single crochet in front loop only 
  • sk = skip
  • st = stitch
  • sts = stitches
  • slst = slip Stitch
  • slsts = slip Stitches
  • INC = 2 single crochet in one stitch
  • dc = double crochet 
  • dc blo = double crochet in back loop only 
  • dc flo = double crochet in front loop only 
  • 3dc, 5dc = 3 or 5 double crochet in the same stitch
  • MR = magic ring 

Specialty Stitch & Technique Key

Crochet shell stitch = *sc, sk2, 5dc, sk2* (see the instructions)

Notes

  • ch2 never counts as a stitch 
  • Crochet with two strands of yarn at once!
  • It is worked in the round top down. Ch1 at the beginning of each row DOES NOT count as a stitch. 
  • You are working with the right side on the outside of the round and the wrong side is the inside of the round.
  • The hat will fit average adult size heads 53,5-58,5 cm (21-23 inches), but you can make a smaller or larger size by decreasing or increasing the numer of rows (1. – 16. row).

Instructions

Starting with off white yarn make a MR.

Round 1: 6 sc, slst in 1st st of the round to join. 

Round 2: ch1, INC in each st across. Slst to join. 

Round 3: ch1, *sc, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 4: ch1, *sc in next 2 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 5: ch1, *sc in next 3 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 6: ch1, *sc in next 4 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 7: ch1, *sc in next 5 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 8: ch1, *sc in next 6 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 9: ch1, *sc in next 7 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 10: ch1, *sc in next 8 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 11: ch1, *sc in next 9 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 12: ch1, *sc in next 10 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 13: ch1, *sc in next 11 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 14: ch1, *sc in next 12 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 15: ch1, *sc in next 13 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Round 16: ch1, *sc in next 14 sts, INC* 6-times, slst to join. 

Pumpkin yarn:

Round 17: ch1, *sc blo, sk2, 5dc blo, sk2* 15-times, sc blo, sk2, 5dc, slst in the 1st st of the round to join. 

Round 18: ch2, 3dc, sk2, *sc, sk2, 5dc, sk2* 15-times, 2dc in the 1st st of the previous round where you already made 3dc in the beginning of the round. Slst in 1st st of this round to join.  

Round 19: ch1, *sc, sk2, 5dc, sk2* 15-times, sc, sk2, 5dc, slst in the 1st st of this round to join. 

Repeat rounds 18 and 19 until round 25.

Pumpkin and off-white yarn:

Round 26: ch1, sc flo in next 3 sts, INC, *sc flo in next 11 sts, INC* 7-times, sc flo in remaining 8 sts. Slst in 1st st of the round to join. 

Rounds 27 – 30: ch1, sc in each st around. Slst to join. 

Round 31: ch1, sc in next 4 sts, INC, *sc in next 12 sts, INC* 7-times, sc in remaining 8 sts. Slst to join. 

Rounds 32 – 34: ch1, sc in each st around. Slst to join. 

Round 35: ch1, sc in next 5 sts, INC, *sc in next 13 sts, INC* 7-times, sc in remaining 8 sts. Slst to join. 

Round 36: ch1, sc in each st around. Slst to join. 

Finish off.
