Of course, you don’t really need to do any fancy stitching to crochet a beautiful tank top. This design has super-easy construction and uses basic stitches, making it a great choice for someone just venturing into crochet garments. Simple tops like this one are the easiest to style and work well with a number of different outfits.

Materials

  • YARN: DROPS LOVES YOU 7, yarn group A, color 32
  • Hook:  4 mm/G-6
  • Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape, Stitch Markers

Size

Stitch Key (US terminology)

  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • sts = stitches
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sl sts = slip stitches
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • hdc2tog = half double crochet two stitches together
  • fhdc = foundation half double crochet
  • 3dcflo = 3 double crochet stitches in front loop only

Specialty Stitch & Technique Key

Foundation half double crochet:

  1. Chain 2, yarn over, insert hook into the second chain from the hook and pull up loop.
  2. Yarn over and pull through the first loop on the hook to make a chain stitch.
  3. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook to make a hdc.
  4. Yarn over and insert hook into the chain stitch and pull up a loop.
  5. Yarn over and pull through the first loop on the hook creating another chain stitch.
  6. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
  7. Continue working through steps 4-6 until your foundation row reaches the desired number of stitches.

Notes

  • The top is made of a front panel and a back panel.
  • It’s crocheted from bottom to top.
  • If you want the top to be longer just add rows to the front and back panel, but don’t add too many rows because the top is meant to be cropped and will lose its shape if you add too many rows.
  • I recommend you watch my YouTube tutorial if there are any uncertainties.

With sl st sew the shoulders together with the long tail you left from finishing off the front panel (right sides of the panels facing).

With a blanket stitch sew the body sides together.

Armhole

Make one round of hdc around the armhole with the right side facing you. Attach the yarn on the back panel, a few rows above the stitch from sewing the sides of the body together.

Ch 1 and work 1 hdc in the same place where you attached the yarn. When you reach the armpit seam make hdc2tog and then work hdc evenly across until you reach the beginning of this round. Make a sl st to join.

Neckline

Row 1: With the right side facing you, attach the yarn on the right side of the neck hole on the back panel a few rows from the peak. Ch 1 and work hdc evenly across. When you reach the peak, make hdc2tog in the 1st two rows of the peak and then hdc evenly across until you reach the beginning of this round. Sl st to join.

Row 2: ch 2. 3dcflo in each st across. Sl st to join.

Finish off.
