Alpine Skirt

Alpine Skirt

Remember the Treble Twirl Skirt?

The one that became a total best seller because everyone loves a good twirly skirt with pockets? Well, you asked for another skirt pattern, and I couldn't resist giving you something with that same fun, flowy energy but with a twist… Say hello to the Alpine Skirt.

Why alpine stitch (again)?

If you've been following along, you know I have a bit of an obsession with alpine stitch. There's something about that raised, textured fabric that just hits different. It's dimensional, it's interesting, and when you work it in two colors? Magic. This skirt takes everything I loved about the Treble Twirl—the above-the-knee length, the twirl factor, the functional pockets (because what's a skirt without pockets?) and adds that signature alpine stitch texture. Worked in burgundy and black, the stitch creates this gorgeous striped effect where the front post double crochets pop against the contrasting single crochet rows.

The details

  • Two-color alpine stitch for dimensional texture.
  • Above-the-knee length (mid-thigh, adjustable if you want it longer).
  • Functional side pockets built right into the construction.
  • Elastic waistband for stretch and comfortable fit.
  • Easy difficulty. If you've worked with alpine stitch before, this one flows smoothly.

The skirt is worked in two panels (front and back) with pocket panels on each side. When you seam the sides together, boom—instant pockets. No separate pocket attachment needed.

Make it your own

Like all my patterns, this one's customizable. Want it longer? Keep repeating the alpine stitch rows. Want a different color combo? Go for it. The pattern works with any two contrasting colors—just make sure they play well together.

The ribbed waistband adds structure, and the elastic finish means it actually fits comfortably without being too tight or sliding down. The bottom edge naturally curls back a bit (hello, alpine stitch) but you can leave it as is for a casual vibe or block it if you want a straighter hem. I wear mine with the curl—it adds to the relaxed, handmade charm.
