Hook(s)
This design uses two gauges: alpine stitch for the main body, and *fpdc, bpdc* for the waist ribbing. Make a swatch for both to ensure your tension is correct in each section.
Body (alpine stitch); 5 mm hook
- 13 sts x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in)
For swatch:
- Row 1: ch 21, dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and across. (20)
- Row 2: ch 1, turn. Sc across. (20)
- Row 3: ch 2, turn. *fpdc (in 1st row of dcs here and across), dc*; repeat from * to * to the last 2 sts, dc 2. (20)
- Row 4: ch 1, turn. Sc across. (20)
- Row 5: ch 2, turn. *dc, fpdc*, repeat from * to * to the last st, dc. (20)
- Row 6: ch 1, turn. Sc across. (20)
- Repeat rows 3–6 to continue the pattern.
Your swatch is larger than the 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) gauge so you can measure only the center. Edges distort tension, and measuring the middle gives the most accurate gauge for sizing.
Waist ribbing (fpdc, bpdc); 3 mm hook
- 21 sts x 10 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in)
XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL)
To choose your size, measure your waist. The size that matches your measurement is the one to make.

Alpine stitch
Rows 1-3: Setting up alpine stitch.
Start alpine stitch with any odd number of stitches.
- Row 1: dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and across.
- Row 2: ch 1, turn. Sc across.
- Row 3: ch 2, turn. *fpdc (in 1st row of dcs here and across), dc*; repeat from * to * to the last 2 sts, dc 2.
- Row 4: ch 1, turn. Sc across.
- Row 5: ch 2, turn. *dc, fpdc*, repeat from * to * to the last st, dc.
- Row 6: ch 1, turn. Sc across.
- Repeat rows 3–6 to continue the pattern.
- This pattern includes a full video tutorial linked on the front page for steps that are easier to show than tell.
- The skirt is worked in two panels (front and back) with 2 pocket panels each. When you sew the side seams together, the pocket panels will form functional pockets. Finally, you'll crochet thin elastic thread around the inside of the waistband to add stretch.
- The finished skirt length falls at mid-thigh, though you can adjust it to any length. Keep in mind that extra yarn will be needed for added length.
- Odd-numbered rows on the “Body” and are worked on the right side (RS).
- The turning chain does not count as a stitch in this pattern.
