The Design

This cardigan is crafted using the moss stitch for the body, giving it a textured yet soft fabric, while the ribbing is made using the herringbone single crochet back loop only, creating a sleek and structured finish. The unique construction starts with the back panel and flows seamlessly into the front panels, minimizing seaming. The ribbed cuffs and waistband give the piece a professional, polished look.

Stitches & Techniques

The cardigan uses two beautiful stitch patterns:

Moss Stitch

A beginner-friendly stitch that creates a dense yet flexible fabric perfect for garments.

Repeat rows 3 and 4.

Herringbone Single Crochet

This stitch provides a unique, elegant ribbing effect with a slight twist in each stitch, making the cuffs, plackets, and waist stand out beautifully.

Begin with any number  of chains.

Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, insert the hook in the left leg of the sc just made and through the next ch and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue working herringbone single crochet (hsc) across.

Row 2: ch 1, turn. Sc blo in the 1st st, insert the hook into the left leg of the sc just made and through the back loop of the next st and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue working herringbone single crochet through the back loop (hsc blo) across.

Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired size.

Construction Details

You’ll begin with the back panel, then continue working the right and left panels as a single piece. Next, you’ll add the ribbing at the waist, followed by the plackets, and finish with the ribbing on the cuffs.
