I’m thrilled to introduce my latest creation – the Cozy Patchwork Cardigan Crochet Pattern! This intermediate-level pattern is perfect for those looking to create a warm, stylish, and versatile cardigan that stands out. Whether you’re cozying up at home or heading out for a brisk walk, this cardigan will keep you comfortable and chic.

About the Cozy Patchwork Cardigan

The Cozy Patchwork Cardigan is designed with a beautiful blend of colors and textures, making it a unique and eye-catching piece. The pattern uses Drops Flora yarn in four stunning colors: beige, red, caramel, and misty forest. These colors come together in a striking patchwork design, giving the cardigan a modern and artistic flair.

This cardigan features a relaxed fit with an oversized look, making it perfect for layering over your favorite outfits. The extended half double crochet (ehdc) stitch creates a thick, cozy fabric, while the herringbone single crochet (hsc) stitch adds a touch of texture to the ribbing on the cuffs, bottom edge, and plackets. The cardigan also includes stylish button closures on the front, making it both functional and fashionable.

What You’ll Love About This Pattern

  • Beautiful Colorwork: The intarsia crochet technique used in this pattern allows for seamless color changes, resulting in a clean, professional finish. The combination of colors adds depth and character to the cardigan.
  • Cozy and Warm: Made with two strands of yarn held together, this cardigan is perfect for staying warm during those cooler days.
  • Custom Fit: The pattern includes instructions for sizes XS/S/M and L/XL/2XL, ensuring a comfortable fit for various body types.
  • Unique Details: The patchwork design, combined with the ribbed texture, makes this cardigan a standout piece in any wardrobe.

Specialty Stitch & Technique Key

Extended Half Double Crochet

Yo, insert your hook, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through one loop, yo and pull through the remaining three loops.

Herringbone Single Crochet

Begin with any number  of chains.

Row 1 (working in the back bumps of the chain): sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, insert the hook in the left leg of the sc just made and through the back bump of the next ch and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue working herringbone single crochet (hsc) across.

Row 2: ch 1, turn. Sc blo in the 1st st, insert the hook into the left leg of the sc just made and through the back loop of the next st and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue working herringbone single crochet through the back loop (hsc blo) across.

Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired size.

Notes

  • You will start by working the back panel, followed by left and right front panels, and sleeves, starting from the bottom and working up. Once the  panels and the sleeves are complete, you will  join them together by sewing the shoulders together and the sleeves and the body sides. You will finish by making a ribbing on the bottom edge and on the plackets.
  • This pattern uses intarsia crochet. Intarsia crochet involves using separate yarn bobbins or small balls for each color block, ensuring that yarn is not carried across the back of the work. Follow the color chart carefully and manage yarn changes neatly to maintain a clean finish.
  • At the end of each row ch 2 and turn.
  • Ch 2 doesn’t count as a stitch.
  • Working holding two strands of yarn. This is requirement, if you want to make the cardigan exactly as the pattern, because some color changes include holding one strand of one color and the second strand in a different color (A+B, A+C and A+D).
  • Odd numbered rows on the front and back panels are the RS.
  • Work with a 6 mm hook unless it says otherwise.
  • You will be working with ehdc: when instructions say “(B) x 7” it means 1 ehdc in the next 7 sts with yarn B.
  • Both sizes have a link to the “Progress Tracker” for easy to follow instructions.
