Size Guide

Scarf

S (M, L)

Choose your size based on how you prefer to wear your scarf:

  • S - Snug fit for adults or suitable for children
  • M - Relaxed, comfortable fit
  • L - Loose, drapey fit

Hat

Measure your head circumference to determine the appropriate size. If your head circumference is 54 cm for example, make the second size (54) listed in the pattern.

  • Scarf Circumference: 60 (70, 80) cm / 23.6 (27.6, 31.5) in
  • Scarf Height: Adjustable. For size S, I recommend 35 cm (13.8 in); for M, 40 cm (15.7 in); and for L, 45 cm (17.7 in).

Hat

Fits head circumference: 52 (54, 56, 58, 60) cm / 20.5 (21.3, 22.0, 22.8, 23.6) in

Specialty Stitch

Alpine Stitch

Leave a long tail (you will use it to close the gap at the bottom of the first and last stitch of this round), then ch 32.

  • Round 1: Working in the back bumps of the ch, dc into the 3rd ch from the hook and across. Without twisting your work, slst to the 1st dc of the round to join. (30)
  • Round 2: Ch 1, sc around. Slst to the 1st sc of the round to join. (30)
  • Round 3: Ch 2, sk the first sc, fpdc (in 1st round of dcs here and around), dc into the next sc. *Sk the next sc, fpdc around the 2nd next dc from two rounds below, then dc into the next sc. Repeat from * around. Slst to the 1st fpdc of the round to join. (16 fpdc, 16 dc)
  • Round 4: Ch 1, sc around. Slst to the 1st sc of the round to join. (30)
  • Round 5: Ch 2, dc in 1st st, sk the next sc, fpdc around the 2nd dc from two rounds below. *Dc into the next sc, sk 1 sc, fpdc around the next dc from two rounds below. Repeat from * around. Slst to the 1st dc of the round to join. (16 fpdc, 16 dc)

Repeat rounds 2 - 5.
Notes
  • This pattern includes two full video tutorials linked on the front page (one for the scarf, one for the hat) demonstrating steps that are easier to show than tell.
  • You will work in joined rounds without turning, so you will always have the RS facing.
  • The turning chain does not count as a stitch in this pattern. 
  • The scarf and the hat height is adjustable — work as many rounds as you need.
