Easy

Made to fit your body!

Written pattern and YouTube tutorial

This beginner-friendly bucket hat is worked top-down. Open and airy through the crown and body, finished with a cute picot border at the brim. No size chart needed, you measure your own head and adjust as you go. If you can double crochet, you can make this hat.

Katech Milk Cotton Yarn; Color: Bright Red; 55% Cotton, 45% Acrylic; Yarn Weight: DK weight

This is the yarn I used, but any yarn works. I held two strands together throughout,  if you prefer working with a single strand, a worsted or aran weight would give you a similar result. Yarn amounts will vary depending on your size.

  • 150 g / 5¼ oz
  • 508 m / 555 yd

Every stitch deserves the right yarn! 🧶 I’ve gathered some of the best yarns and tools in my Amazon shop. Come browse and see what sparks your creativity. 🤎

Materials

Yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape.

Hook(s)

  • 4.0 mm

Use a hook one or two sizes smaller than your yarn recommends - a tighter fabric holds the hat's shape better. I'd suggest swatching first to find what works for you.

Gauge

Not critical. This is a made-to-measure pattern, so you'll adjust the measurements based on your measurements.

Size Guide

You'll use your own measurements to customize the fit.

Finished Measurements

This is a made-to-measure pattern. The instructions guide you through adjusting the size to fit you.

Stitch Key (US terms)
  • ch/s = chain/s
  • dc = double crochet
  • MR = magic ring
  • sc = single crochet
  • slst = slip stitch
  • sp/s = space/s
  • st/s = stitch/es
Specialty Stitch

None.

Notes
  • This pattern includes a full video tutorial linked on the front page for steps that are easier to show than tell.
  • Ch 3 at the beginning of rounds always counts as 1 dc + 1 ch.

You might be wondering

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes, feel free to substitute. Refer to the Yarn, Materials, and Gauge sections for yarn weight and hook size. Any similar yarn should work as long as the gauge matches.

Is the design customizable?

Most patterns include customization options. Check the Notes section to see which parts can be adjusted.
