dc = double crochet
fdc = foundation double crochet

Foundation double crochet

Step 1: Start with a slip knot, then chain 2. This ch 2 will act as the ch 2 you normally see at the beginning of rows of double crochet, it’s what gives you the height for the stitches, and in the case of the fdc, it acts as an anchor for your first stitch.
Step 2: Next, turn your work so that you are looking at the back bumps of your chains. Yarn over, then insert your hook into the very first chain you made, and pull up a loop.
Step 3: Chain 1. This creates the bottom chain of your fdc.
Step 4: Next, yarn over and complete a double crochet as usual.
Step 5: Yo, insert your hook under the bottom “V” of the ch 1 from the previous fdc, pull up a loop, and repeat Steps 3 and 4.

Repeat Step 5 for as many stitches as your pattern requires.

This pattern includes a full video tutorial linked on the front page for steps that are easier to show than tell.
You'll start with the back bust, working double crochets up toward the shoulders, then continue straight into the front bust, shaping the neckline as you go. Once the bust is complete, you'll work the body downward using the arcade stitch — on both the front and back panels. At the bottom of the body, you'll finish with a double crochet waist. Then seam the sides, leaving the arm openings, and finish with the sleeves.
