Instructions for the gauge

  • Row 1: ch 22, (1 sc, 1 dc) into 2nd ch from the hook, *sk next ch, (1 sc, 1 dc) into next ch; repeat from * to the last 2 chs, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in the last ch. (21)

Lay the swatch flat and measure a 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) square in the center of the swatch, away from the edges. Count your stitches and rows within this square. Your gauge swatch should be larger than 10 x 10 cm to ensure accurate measurement.

Suzette Stitch

This stitch is worked on a foundation chain in multiples of 2. (This means you’ll end up with an odd number of stitches to work with because one chain will be lost to turning.)

  • Row 1: (1 sc, 1 dc) into 2nd ch from the hook, *sk next ch, (1 sc, 1 dc) into next ch; repeat from * to the last 2 chs, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in the last ch.
  • Row 2: ch 1, turn, (1 sc, 1 dc) into 1st sc, sk next dc, *(1 sc, 1 dc) into the next sc, sk next dc; repeat from * to the end, finishing with 1 sc in last st.

Repeat Row 2 for pattern.

Notes
  • This pattern includes a full video tutorial linked on the front page for steps that are easier to show than tell.
  • You will start by making the back panel, then continue seamlessly onto the first front panel and the second front panel—all worked as one piece with no seams. Next, make the sleeves and attach them to the body. Sew the side seams together, then finish with one round of sc around the plackets, neckline, and bottom edge of the cardigan.
  • This design is meant to fit oversized, with a wide bust. The finished cardigan length falls at mid-thigh, though you can adjust it to any length. Keep in mind that extra yarn will be needed for added length.
  • The turning chain does not count as a stitch in this pattern.
  • Both the cardigan length and sleeve length are adjustable.

You might be wondering

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes, feel free to substitute. Refer to the Yarn, Materials, and Gauge sections for yarn weight and hook size. Any similar yarn should work as long as the gauge matches.

Is the design customizable?

Most patterns include customization options. Check the Notes section to see which parts can be adjusted.
